Starting an Online Business and Making Money From It
If you are starting an online business or have been trying to make money online following the advice and online courses, that you purchased from the so called gurus but haven’t made one dollar yet and are more confused then ever, then I promise you that you will benefit greatly from bookmarking my blog in weeks and months ahead.
After 2 years of learning about the internet, how things work, what to do, how to go about starting an online business and making money from it, I have decided that I will share my experiences and provide you, the visitor to my site, with information that will save you a lot of time and money.
Offline I am a multi skilled, self employed, small builder specializing in remedial building works. I have extensive experience, qualifications and education but more importantly skills and life experiences.
My wife and I have been blessed with an amazing baby boy 15 months ago, so between my offline work, being a father and a husband there is not much time left for work on the online business. Nevertheless I have spent countless hours and time, not to mention thousands of dollars on different courses, software, subscriptions and the like.
The result of all this time and money spent is that I’ve been led into many dead end ‘make money online’ alleys and been ‘mugged’ by gurus and pretenders that do not operate a real online business, but rather sell regurgitated garbage that is out of date, incomplete and just dead wrong.
Here are some of the reasons that these internet marketing ‘make money online’ gurus and pretenders are able to get away with ripping of people who are thinking of starting an online business, or worse wanting to make money online :
- - thnik there is little work involved-most people who want to make money online are prepared to believe that there are simple ‘push button’, ‘internet business in a box’ type ways to make money online as the gurus are promising in their sales letters and fake earning screen shots and testimonials.
- -no business experience-many people who are thinking of starting an online business, don’t have any experience in running an offline business, which is different, but the business principles are the same and without market research, product creation or choosing the right affiliate product etc just to name a few skills that are essential, their efforts end up being a waste of time.
- -can’t recognize outdated and false information-most courses and products teaching this stuff is just copied from other sources which is either wrong, out of date, PLR type info, or incomplete.
- -most people are lazy- most people think that all they need is some software which can be used to make thousands of dollars overnight. In reality most of this software is of poor quality, outsourced to a programmer in India [ no offence intended ] which can be even harmful as Google keeps changing it’s rules etc. Secondly, they don’t even bother to put in practice what is in the course, guide and/or software.
- -not thinking long term- in order to have a sustainable business, the business itself needs to be put in place and worked on, there are no short cuts in the competitive environment today [ just like offline]
- -don’t bother learning skills needed- to be able to run a business online, even if you are outsourcing the work need, you still need the skills to be able to coordinate/project manage things, as in many cases you need to teach the people working for you various tasks. It all ties in with being lazy, not thinking long term and looking for push button solutions, thereby not having time to learn the skills.
- -wrong mindset- if you have the wrong mindset and attitude in the first place you are going to give up and /or keep looking for the easy, push button solutions.
- -eternal newbie mindset- even if you do your training, learn the right skills etc., if you don’t dive in and work on starting an online business and build it, all that time you spend is wasted.
I have to say that many of the above points I experienced in my own quest of starting an online business and will write a book about it, well at least a good report of the pitfalls of what to do or not do one day, but for now I hope that some of these reasons why 97% or more people who try starting an online business fail miserably [according to most statistics], will help you in some way.
Here is what I found out after 2 years [on and off] and hundred or so courses and products out there that I bought, teaching about starting an online business and making money from it.
- Most of these courses and products teach the same thing. The only difference between them is the way it is presented, the look and the way it is packaged.
- Don’t believe the sales letters and the hype, most of it is bull and outright lies.
- Even if the course or product is expensive it doesn’t mean it will be useful to you because you may know some things already and you won’t get value from it.
- There are no shortcuts. You need to treat this as a long term business and learn the right skills. At the same time it all depends on your circumstances and whether you have more time or money to invest in your business.
- Don’t do what everyone else is doing. Do things differently and be unique, that’s what the search engines and the customers value.
- Affiliate marketing can be profitable, but you need to work on offering your own products and services and have affiliates working on promoting your stuff if you going to leverage your efforts.
- Without outsourcing work you are just going to have another job you become a slave to, not a business, so what’s the point of doing that. Leveraging is the secret to owning a business, thereby not getting another job on your back pushing you down to an early grave.
Don’t give up on your dreams and don’t let others put you down. It’s hard to keep your self esteem and optimism up there in face of temporary failure or frustration of things not going the way you want or expect them to go. That’ why learning how to improve yourself and understanding how your mind works is just as important as knowledge and implementation itself.
